Outfit of the day: Winter sweaters

I just bought this sweater from American Apparel the other day.  It's warm and comfortable but I was afraid that wearing it would make me look like an old woman or something.  Then I see Diana Kruger (one of fashion icons) in Glamour's March issue wearing a comfortable sweater belted with a mini skirt and sky high heels.  I know it's Diana Kruger and she could make a garbage bag look fashionable, but I had to try it with my new sweater.  Of course I toned down the look so it was everyday appropriate, but here it is.  The dress/skirt is from AA as well and the shoes are from Forever 21.

Fake Fringe

Bangs.  What a commitment.  I've thought about getting them forever, but the idea of having to grow them out when I don't want them anymore... it always changes my mind. I have now found a cute way to make it look like I have bangs.

Step 1: Braid hair with about 2-3 inches to the end and stop.  Secure with an elastic.

Step 2: Pin the braid to one side of your head with the elastic at the top about an inch from your hair line.

Step 3: Style the ends of your hair to look like bangs. Spray with hair spray for hold.

Step 4: Put on a head band or tie a scarf around your head to hide the elastic from the braid.

Clearly they're not perfect bangs, but I think they look realistic enough to pull off for day. This isn't going to work for you if you have short hair, ombre hair, split ends or lots of layers.  But for me it's great I get bangs for a day without the commitment.

Outfit of the day: Birthday Number 25

Yesterday was my 25th birthday.  Saturday night I went out with some friends for drinks and dancing, and Sunday I worked (Boo) and then my boyfriend took me out for an intimate dinner which was lovely.  All said and done, it was a great birthday.

Here is the outfit I wore for drinks Saturday.  The blazer is from Suzy Shier, bandeau and shorts are from American Apparel and the shoes are from Le Chateau.

Outfit of the day: Velvet

This is another work outfit, so again it's all American Apparel, except the shoes which are from Spring. I wore a long sleeved navy velvet dress with my grey cable knit sweater over since it's always cold in our store.  I am also wearing the sheer patterned tights in navy grid and cotton ribbed socks in navy primary so my feet won't get cold.

I took the sweater off for most of these pictures so you could see the dress better, which is super comfortable and Dov Charney thinks velvet is cool.

Happy Valentine's Day

Just a quick post to wish everyone a happy Valentine's day. My boyfriend got me pink roses and pink champagne and I picked him up a card today.  It's been a low key Valentine's Day for the most part, we both have a lot of school work to do.

The flowers are beautiful, I took a few pictures of them using my iPhone camera app called pudding camera.  It's cool, if you have an iPhone you should get it, it's free.

Remember you don't need to be in a relationship to enjoy V-day.  You could always get together with your friends and make silly valentine's to hand out to each other, eat food and celebrate being single! In fact, I've always found that group valentine's always sound way more fun then stuffy romantic ones.

Valentine's Day outfit

I love my job! Well parts of it, especially the parts when they give me free clothes!  I was recently rewarded a package for doing good work from American Apparel.  After much deliberation I finally decided on the multi-layered reversible petticoat in ballet pink, tri-blend pocket jumpsuit in athletic grey, and the unisex twill welt pocket pant in sea blue.

I really shouldn't be calling this an outfit post, since they're not really outfits they're just pictures of me in my new duds, but I did include a v-day outfit with the petticoat.  It's pretty sweet looking, so if you are trying to be a sexy valentine this probably isn't the way you would go, but the skirt is sheer so there is always the chance your date might get a glance of panties or lack their of, if you're into that.

I'm also wearing my new head band from forever 21 that I recently purchased online and posted in my last blog.

(small) Forever 21 Haul

Just a few things I bought from forever21.com.
1.  I really need a new purse and I fell in love with this one, it's a cross body bag which is way more convenient then the hand held one I currently am using.  The studded bow is adorable.  They also had it in black but I enjoyed this neutral taupe more.
2. I've been wanting a great pair of casual wedges for ever and I found them.  They're imitation suede, brown so they will match a lot and the heel height is probably bigger then most people would think of as a casual heel, but I'm 4'11... I need all the height help I can get.
3. I'm not really a head band girl, I wish a I was.  But my baby hairs always look weird when I push my hair back in a head band.  But I couldn't resist with this one, it's sheer fabric with embroidery and beading to make the flower details.
Together everything came to just above $60 CND.  I think that's pretty good.  Forever21 has it faults, but price points is not one of them!

Me with out You: 80's Trends

This movie is pretty awesome and if you haven't seen it yet I totally recommend it!  It follows two best friends through their lives together and analyzes their destructive friendship.   I won't say more than that because I don't want to spoil it but it's good.

The movie takes place mostly in the 70's and 80's.  The fashion isn't really highlighted to much but I really enjoyed it, especially the 80's periods.  The girls actually wore garbage bags to a party during one point.  I couldn't really find any good stills that showcased the clothes but here you can see a little bit.  I really enjoyed all the fish net tights and tulle that Anna Friel's character wears, very Madonna inspired.  I especially liked all the socks with high heels look.  I'm going to have to try that myself!
